Although there are several markets (souk) in Cairo Khan el-Khalili is the largest and most exciting. The souk attracts tourists as well as locals coming to do their regular shopping. This is the place where you will really see a slice of genuine Cairo life and get some amazing photos. The site where Khan el-Khalili now stands was originally part of the Fatimid Great Eastern Palace complex which was begun in the first century.
