The free-standing tower is located on Gezira Island (Zemalak) not far from the Museum of Modern Art. The body of the tower is made of granite and has intricate latticework which slightly fans out at the top of the tower like a lotus flower. The tower was designed by Naoum Shebib and constructed from 1954 to 1961.
